The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has recommended a CBI inquiry into the Hathras incident. Giving information about this, the Chief Minister’s Office said that after the order of CM Yogi, a CBI inquiry has been recommended. The SIT(Special Investigation Team) is already investigating the case of gang rape and subsequent death of the Dalit girl. The state government had decided to file the case in the fast track court. However, after the controversy escalated, the state government has now decided to refer the case to the CBI.

On September 14, an incident of rape and with a Dalit girl was reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district. Based on the victim’s statement, the police had registered a case against the accused under the section of gangrape. The four accused are currently under police custody. After the incident, the victim was in an unconscious condition for several days. She was admitted for treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after her condition deteriorated, where she died on Tuesday(29th September).

After the death, the family went to Hathras the same day with the victim’s body. The victim was cremated here in the mid-night of Tuesday-Wednesday. The family alleged that we were not allowed to see even her face at the last time and the administration conducted the last rites at 2.30 am under police security. The ongoing protest against the gangrape and police-administration negligence intensified after the funeral procession at midnight.

Seeing increasing the protest, the government formed an SIT investigation. At three o’clock on Friday evening, the three-member SIT submitted its preliminary report in the case to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. After the initial investigation found negligence, the UP government suspended Hathras Superintendent of Police, DMSP, the area’s inspector, and other officials, with immediate action. Now the government has decided to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI.
