Fire broke out at left Bank Power House in Srisailam, Telangana; staff trapped inside

So far 10 people have been evacuated from this station, out of which 6 people have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

The fire broke out late Thursday night at Left Bank Power House in Srisailam. So far 10 people have been evacuated from this station, out of which 6 people have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. 9 people are feared trapped inside this station. Rescue work is on to rescue 9 people trapped in the station. Initial reports showed that a fire broke out from a short circuit and spread on sight. Many people present at the scene were evacuated through the tunnel. The stranded include 6 TS Genco employees and three private company employees. To avoid any other mishappening, power generation operations at the power station have been suspended.

At the time of the fire incident, 17 persons were present at the spot. Though eight of them manage to escape to safety, the remaining nine people were still trapped inside. Eight of the rescued are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Srisailam.

Srisailam hydroelectric plant is in Telangana near the border with Andhra Pradesh. Telangana minister Jagadishwar Reddy said Unit 1 caught fire at 10.30 pm. Ten people were successful in coming out. The supply of the plant was stopped. We are trying to get help from Singarani coal mine as they may have expertise in rescue work in such a situation. Our priority is to get people trapped inside.
