Prashant Bhushan, a well-known lawyer of the Supreme Court, has been convicted in a contempt case based on two tweets. The Supreme Court has convicted him. A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Krishna Murari has given this decision.  The sentence will be heard on 20 August. On August 5, the Supreme Court reserved the decision in this case. The court also turned down the demand that the plea in this case is not hearable as it has flaws. The court did not even accept the demand that the case be referred to another bench.

At the same time, lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who is facing the case, has said in the answer filed in the Supreme Court that due to the healthy criticism of the Chief Justice of India, the reputation of the top court does not come down. The court had recently issued a notice of contempt in two tweets of Prashant Bhushan and asked to file a reply. Prashant Bhushan filed an affidavit in the court saying that the tweet made to the Chief Justice and the tweet made to the former Chief Justice comes under healthy criticism.

He said that healthy criticism of the Chief Justice is not an insult to the Supreme Court nor does it diminish the dignity of the court. In the 140-page affidavit, Bhushan has said that his comment about the last four Chief Justices is not contempt from anywhere. In all the tweets, there is talk of not allowing democracy to be destroyed and this expression does not come under the scope of the concept.

In an interview in 2009, lawyer Prashant Bhushan called eight former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court as corrupt. In the last hearing, Bhushan regretted his statement given in 2009 but did not apologize unconditionally. Bhushan said that at that time, what I meant to say was not corruption, but not to perform duty in the right way.
