Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu announces the retirement of 11 members from the Upper House

M Venkaiah Naidu said that the retiring members would continue to serve the cause of the people and continue to strengthen democracy.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday announced the names of 11 members who will retire from the Upper House in November after completing their term. “Today, we bid farewell to some of our colleagues from the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand namely Dr. Chhatrapal Singh Yadav, Javed Ali Khan, Ravi Prakash Verma, PL Punia, Ram Gopal Yadav, Raja Ram,  Veer Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Neeraj Shekhar, Arun Singh and Raj Babbar who would be retiring in November,” Rajya Sabha Chairman said. “While retirement marks the completion of the terms of Rajya Sabha members, it also pervades in them a sense of contentment of having to serve the people of the nation.

M Venkaiah Naidu said that the retiring members would continue to serve the cause of the people and strengthen democracy.

“The retiring members have contributed significantly to this house and nation. They have truly shown to the cause of democracy. Though some may come back in the house by re-elected those who would not, the house will miss them,” he added.

“All the eleven members have retired but not tired. They will continue to serve the people as well as the country and will always raise their voices for the cause of people. I wish them good health and happiness and many more years of service to the country. I hope that they will continue to strengthen democracy by serving the cause of people,” he said.

As we know that each member of the Rajya Sabha is elected for a term of six years. One-third of the members retire every second year and fresh elections are held to elect new members in Rajya Sabha.
