Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh passed away at the age of 82 years on Sunday

Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He was also a retired major.

Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh died at 6.55 am on Sunday. He was 82 years old and had been ill for a long time. He was admitted to the Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi on 25 June and was undergoing treatment for sepsis with multiorgan dysfunction syndrome. On Sunday morning, he suffered a cardiac arrest. His corona report was negative. Jaswant Singh was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He was also a retired major.

President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have expressed grief over the death of Jaswant Singh. Kovind tweeted, ‘Veteran soldier, outstanding parliamentarian, extraordinary leader and intellectual Mr. Jaswant Singh’s death is sad. He performed many difficult roles with ease and equality. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.’

Jaswant Singh was one of the founding members of the BJP. He remained with the party from 1980 to 2014. Singh became a Rajya Sabha member 5 times (1980, 1986, 1998, 1999, 2004) and Lok Sabha member 4 times (1990, 1991, 1996, 2009). In the Atal Vihari government, he held positions like Defense Minister, Foreign Minister, and Finance Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his tweet, “Jaswant Singh Ji first served the country with hard work as a soldier and later during his long association with politics. In Atal Ji’s government, he handled important portfolios and left a strong mark in the world of finance, defense, and foreign affairs. Saddened by his demise, Jaswant Singh Ji will be remembered for his unique outlook on politics and society. He also contributed to the strengthening of BJP. I will always remember our conversation. My condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.’
