Defence minister prohibited to import defense products;will manufacture by the country itself

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday made a big announcement towards becoming a self-reliant India(Aatmanirbhar- Bharat). He said that 101 defense products imported from abroad are being banned. These will now be prepared in the country itself. The aim is to strengthen the country’s defense market. The help of the Defense Research and Development Institute (DRDO) will be taken to prepare these instruments. It will be prepared according to the need of the three armies.

The Prime Minister had outlined 5 pillars for self-reliant India, announcing a special package with the economy, infrastructure, systems, demography, and demand.

This decision will be a big opportunity for India’s defense market to become self-reliant. This will also increase our development capacity. The goods will be manufactured based on the demand of armed forces and the design of DRDO.

The list of these 101 items has been prepared after deliberating several times with various stakeholders such as Armed Forces, Private Industries.

The three armies worked on 260 such schemes from April 2015 to August 2020. Their cost was around 3.5 lakh crores. In the next 6 or 7 years, the domestic defense industry is expected to get contracts worth about Rs 4 lakh crore.

Out of these contracts worth Rs 4 lakh crore, about one lakh 30 thousand crore rupees will be given to the Army and Air Force, while equipment Navy worth about one lakh 40 thousand crores. The import ban is planned to be implemented in four years (2020-2024).

The 101 luggage list includes not only common equipment but includes high-tech weapon systems such as artillery guns, assault rifles, sonar systems, transport aircraft, LCH radars among others.

Major General level talks were held between India and China on Saturday. It lasted for about 8.30 hours. It is believed that during the talks, there was a discussion on withdrawing the army from the stressed areas of Line of Actual Control (LAC) including Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) and Depsang of East Ladakh. The Chinese army has not yet retreated from Depsang, Pangong Tso Lake, and Gogra. India has asked him to immediately withdraw from these areas.
