An ode to Aipan, the traditional art form from the Uttarakhand state, this wedding was a celebration of the mountains

Held in the scenic hills of Nainital, the Bhavika and Jayant wedding was a celebration of heritage and nature. For Bhavika, a Kumaoni bride born and raised in these mountains, it was the perfect setting. The groom, Jayant, was also deeply connected to this land, having spent his childhood at a boarding school in Nainital. The beauty of the mountains ran through their story, which was reflected in every detail of the wedding.

Wedding Planning
Dakshita Bhatla of DB & Spaces, says, “The couple wanted their wedding to celebrate the timeless beauty and deep-rooted culture of Kumaon, nestled in the heart of Nainital. The mountains, with their vastness and serenity, became more than just a backdrop—they became a part of the love story itself. The challenge was to weave this natural beauty into every detail of the wedding, creating an atmosphere where guests could feel the magic of the land and the significance of the moment.”
The team at DB & Spaces wanted to design a space that felt warm, welcoming, and intimately connected to the spirit of Kumaon. Aipan, the traditional art form of Kumaon, was the inspiration for the décor.

Wedding
For the wedding, it was a palette of gold, red and white. Gold came from the bride’s sacred Pahadi Nath, white from the intricate lines of Aipan art, and red from the groom’s Rajwada Safa. The colors were reflected in every fabric, flower, and detail. Guests wore pastels, so this story of red, gold, and white could truly sing.
The seating plan was also crafted with a purpose. No cold theater seating. Instead, the space was designed to feel like home—with round and rectangular tables bringing guests closer, creating connection over convention. “We wanted every guest to feel they were a part of something bigger, where nature, culture, and love converged in a shared space. At the heart of it all was the desire to create an experience that resonated with the soul—one that would linger long after the wedding day, reminding everyone of the power of place and love,” Dakshita adds.
The mandap, built in an amphitheater with 500 candles, rose gently like the hills—warm, spiritual, and quietly grand. The walk to the mandap was not a traditional one, but held a deep significance for the couple. It wasn’t a bride walking alone. Not a groom waiting. Both entered from opposite ends, meeting at a center etched in Aipan—a moment of togetherness, captured forever.

Fusing modern silhouettes with ethnic patterns, bride Shraddha Shah Raka’s bridal wardrobe ticked every box on the list. Be it gowns, traditional mirrorwork lehengas or lehengas with a modern spin – the bride left nothing to chance as she donned each of them with aplomb making a resounding statement at every event with her unique sense of style.

Wedding Planning
Carefully curating her wedding wardrobe, Shraddha was keen on ensuring that she paid an ode to her roots while expressing her love for sleek modern styles. Owing to this perspective, her wardrobe was a fun mix of innovative materials, like, a structured metallic fabric that was stitched in a traditional lehenga silhouette. Each look was also paired with subtle makeup so that the ensembles spoke for themselves and ensured the bride was comfortable in each one of them.

Wedding Functions
Mehndi
Keen on keeping comfort first for her mehndi, Shraddha opted for a sleeveless lehenga. The lightweight beige lehenga consisted of straps encrusted with mirrors and colourful floral prints. Her accessories were also minimal with a simple necklace and earrings while her hair was styled in a half-up style.

Carnival
For the carnival, the bride was keen on keeping it modern as well as traditional. And, to ensure she looked a million bucks while being as comfy as possible, she chose a quirky half saree with a mermaid-style skirt. Encrusted with sequins, fuschia pink borders and a striped blouse, Shraddha looked right at home at the carnival!

Engagement
For the engagement evening, glamour took the front seat as Shraddha donned a stunned silver lehenga. With a one-shouldered choli and a sequined silver lehenga that glimmered with her every move. On the accessories front, she kept it simple with minimalistic diamond jewellery that adorned her neck, ears and wrists.

Cocktail
Showcasing her love for silver, the cocktail celebrations witnessed Shraddha opting for a sequined gown with a leg slit. Pairing it up with a sleek ‘Serpenti’ necklace and diamond danglers.

Arabian Night
A mystical evening lit up by lanterns, Shraddha did justice to the Arabian Nights theme with a metallic grey lehenga set. Paired with a halter neck choli that showed off her shoulders, the lehenga exuded subtle glamour with its striped and chevron patterns. Completing the look was a half-up hair-do, a nude brown pout and a pair of statement earrings.

Haldi
Orange and yellow hues were at the forefront of the haldi celebration. Dazzling under the sunshine, Shraddha wore a patchwork lehenga that flaunted various Indian textile crafts like banarasi zari work, jacquard patterns, mirror work and embroidery. The choli was also a yellow-hued one with intricate threadwork. Accessorizing this look was a pair of statement chaandbalis, a choker necklace and a pair of floral haath phool.

Embroidered with architecture-inspired motifs and intricate butti work the red was accentuated by gold threadwork. Her bridal dupatta also flaunted a scalloped border that perfectly matched the hem of her lehenga. For her jewellery, Shraddha chose a heavy polki set complete with a necklace, earrings, kadas and maang tikka.
