]]> Railway has created eight lakh man-days of labor opportunities in six states including Bihar and Rajasthan under the Poor Welfare Employment Scheme(Gareeb Kalyan Rojgar Yojna). The Railway Ministry gave this information on Tuesday. The scheme was launched in June this year to help migrant laborers affected by Covid-19. Gareeb Kalyan Rojgar Yojna was launched with an initial fund of Rs 50,000 crore.

The statement said that till September 4, 12,276 workers were involved in these programs and Rs 1,631.80 crore was released to the contractors of the projects. Railways has appointed a nodal officer in each district and state to work in cooperation with the state government. The 125-day Gareeb Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan is being run as a mission. Under this, 25 categories of work activities are being implemented in 116 districts. Under this campaign, special attention is being given to the employment of migrant workers in these six states.

“Indian Railways has provided 8,09,046 man-days of employment under the Gareeb Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan in six states … Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh by September 4, 2020,” the ministry said in a statement. The statement said that the Minister of Railways and Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal was watching the progress of these projects and the employment opportunities of the migrant laborers. About 164 infrastructure projects of the Railways are being implemented in these states.
