Amid the leadership crisis in the Congress, the party is going to have a big meeting on Monday. Today there is a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), in which the question of leadership can be discussed openly. This meeting of the CWC is taking place at a time when many big leaders have demanded a big change in the organization in a letter written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. According to sources, Sonia Gandhi has said that she no longer wants to continue as the party president.
At least 23 leaders, including members of the CWC, leaders, and ministers in the UPA government, wrote letters to Sonia Gandhi on the organization’s issue. The letter emphasizes the right strategy to run the party with strong central leadership. It said that the leadership should be such that it is active and can be seen working on the ground.
In this meeting of the CWC, not only can it be decided that Sonia Gandhi will continue to lead the Congress or not, but the question of the leadership of the party can be discussed openly from the Gandhi family itself. According to sources, Sonia Gandhi has told the party leaders that she has completed the 1-year term of the interim president and now wants to leave the post of the party president. This meeting of the CWC has been called as a response to a letter written to Sonia Gandhi about 2 weeks ago.
Questions have been raised on the functioning of the CWC in the letter and it has been said that the CWC could not guide the party in difficult times. According to sources, the letter has been signed by senior leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal as well as youths like Jitin Prasad, Milind Deora, and Arvinder Singh Lovely. Sources reveal that after receiving the letter, Sonia Gandhi spoke to Ghulam Nabi Azad on the phone. Many Congress leaders believe that many leaders who wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi 2 weeks ago are worried about their future.
